Confirmed 57-year prison sentence and a historic €400,000 compensation award for a minor victim of sexual abuse
Not all criminal proceedings truly reflect the magnitude of the harm suffered. In this case, in addition to a very severe conviction, a substantial civil compensation award was upheld, expressly recognising the devastating impact of the events.
In ASO Corporate, we have acted in a highly serious criminal proceeding involving minor victims, in which on appeal a sentence of
57 years of imprisonment was confirmed for multiple offences against sexual freedom, together with the civil liability determined at first instance. The ruling was issued by the
Criminal Appeals Section of the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia, in
Barcelona, on
22 December 2025, in
Criminal Appeal Case No. 593/2025, arising from the
Provincial Court of Barcelona, Section 21, originally from the
Investigating Court No. 6 of Cerdanyola del Vallès.
The judgment confirms, among other civil consequences, compensation of
€400,000 for one of the victims and
€80,000 for another. The court found a prolonged and devastating pattern of sexual predation, exploitation, production of pornographic material, and inducement to prostitution, and held that the amount of
€400,000 was not disproportionate, but rather appropriate given the extraordinary seriousness of the harm caused.
According to a public note issued regarding the case,
according to the defence, this is the highest compensation confirmed in Spain for a sexual assault case of this nature. For prudence, we present it as a
historic compensation award and one of the highest in a case of this severity.
The most important aspect of this case is not only the severity of the criminal sentence, but also the message it sends to victims and families:
when the harm is extreme, civil liability must not be treated as a mere formality. In certain proceedings, properly pursuing compensation makes a real difference and better reflects the profound impact of such acts.
If you have suffered abuse, sexual assault, or exploitation and need to assess criminal action and compensation claims, we can help you review your case with the seriousness, sensitivity, and strategy it requires.
